Is Dashtoon really free?
Yes for Studio's free tier — Dashtoon Studio gives 100 images per day and one character training per day on the free plan, sustained ongoing. Paid Studio pricing is not publicly listed on dashtoon.com as of June 2026; third-party reviews mention different figures but none appear on Dashtoon's own pricing page. Does using Dashtoon's free tier lock me into a 10-year contract?
No. This is the most common misconception. Dashtoon's Studio image generation (the creator app) operates under Dashtoon's general Terms & Conditions — non-exclusive license, rights for Studio-generated images remain with the user. The "10-year irrevocable exclusive contract with 15% net-profit royalty" that Writer Beware critiqued on May 10, 2024 was for Dashtoon's separate Authors Program — a book-adaptation licensing pipeline where authors license existing IP for Dashtoon to adapt into webtoons. That contract had two paths: 10-year exclusive at 15% net profit, or non-exclusive at 50% net profit with 60-day termination. It is not triggered by Studio free-tier image generation. As of June 2026, Dashtoon has not publicly updated the Writer Beware boilerplate. If you're approached for the Authors Program, read the actual contract carefully or get a literary agent involved.
Which has better character consistency?
Dashtoon, by a margin, in our /best-ai-comic-generators benchmark. Dashtoon's character training step is the strongest in the category for maintaining a named character's appearance across many pages. COMICPAD's consistency (up to 6 named characters per comic) is strong but does not match Dashtoon's LoRA-trained approach for long-form serial work.
Can I export from both?
Yes. COMICPAD outputs HD PDF and PNG with commercial-use rights on paid plans. Dashtoon Studio outputs in multiple formats, and per Dashtoon's current public ToS rights for images created with Studio remain with the user. Both let you use the output commercially.
Can I publish a Dashtoon Studio comic elsewhere — WEBTOON Canvas, KDP, my own site?
Per Dashtoon's current public publish FAQ: yes. Dashtoon explicitly states you are free to host your comics on other platforms even if you publish with Dashtoon. This is separate from the Authors Program book-adaptation pipeline, which has its own contract terms. For Studio-generated comics, your output is yours to distribute.
Does COMICPAD have a permanent free tier?

What happens if Dashtoon changes its terms in the future?
Fair question — any tool can change its terms. Two general practices that protect you regardless of which tool you use: (1) download your finished comics as files you own (PDF or PNG export); (2) keep your source prompts/scripts in a separate document so you can re-generate elsewhere if needed. Both COMICPAD and Dashtoon currently allow export. As of June 2026, Dashtoon's public ToS keeps Studio image rights with the user.
