Custom Comic Book

Arc: A celebratory adventure starring the recipient. End on a big birthday moment — surprise party, gift reveal, or a wish granted.

Tip: If the recipient is a child, lean Comedy or Manga; if adult, Noir or Sci-Fi can work as inside jokes.

Arc: A relationship retrospective — how they met, key shared moments, looking forward together. Emotional beats over action.

Tip: Upload photos of both partners as characters. Frame the story in third person so the comic feels like a story about them, not by them.

Arc: A celebration of one quality — what makes them a great parent. Superhero framing makes the metaphor explicit ("Dad to the Rescue").

Tip: Kids love seeing their parent rendered as a superhero. Keep the script short — a half-hour read at most.

Arc: A coming-of-age arc — the past four years, the next four. Strong opening and a hopeful close.

Tip: Cast the graduate plus 2–3 friends. The comic becomes a yearbook moment.

Arc: Mini story of the couple. Keep it under 8 pages — printing costs multiply with copy count and page length.

Tip: More than a handful of copies starts being commercial use. See the copyright section below; AI disclosure may be required.

Arc: Long-form personal history. The 21–400 page Custom tier is the right fit; smaller plans don't go this long in one job.

Tip: Plan the script first. A 100-page comic is a real project; outline beats before generating.

Arc: An origin story for a team or a celebration of a shipped project. Lean light — internal comics live or die on tone.

Tip: Get sign-off on character likenesses before generating. Confidentiality and brand guidelines matter more than story.

Front cover

Title at top or bottom third, hero image in the center, issue number / volume at top corner. Title typography matters more than the art — a stunning hero image with weak title work reads as amateur. COMICPAD generates the hero image; finish title typography in Canva, Affinity Publisher, or Photoshop.

Back cover

Short synopsis (50–100 words), publisher info (if any), and a barcode area if you're going through KDP (KDP reserves the bottom-right corner). For a gift comic, you can fill the back cover with an inside joke, a quote, or another illustration.

Spine (perfect-bound only)

Spine width math: (page count × paper weight factor) / 2. For 60lb paper, roughly 0.004 inches per page. A 100-page comic needs ~0.4 inch spine. The print shop's template tells you exact dimensions — always use their template, never invent the spine width.

Bleed and safe zones

Keep title and important elements inside the safe zone — 0.25 inches in from the trim edge. Extend background art into the bleed zone — 0.125 inches beyond the trim. Without bleed, you get a white border where the trim missed.

USCO Part 2 (January 29, 2025)

The U.S. Copyright Office holds that purely AI-generated output is not eligible for copyright registration without meaningful human authorship. The script you wrote, the panel arrangement you chose, the dialogue, and your edits establish copyright in the human-authored elements. Practical translation: if you wrote the story and made meaningful choices, your custom comic is protectable. Pure prompt-and-publish is not.

Gift vs commercial use

One copy gifted to one person: not commercial use. Wedding favors at 50 copies: starts being commercial — even if free. Sold on Etsy or KDP: commercial. AI disclosure is required on most commercial platforms (KDP, IngramSpark) and by law in some jurisdictions (South Korea's AI Basic Act, effective January 22, 2026 — labeling required for commercial distribution; one-year grace period on penalties).
